NEW YORK: Burson-Marsteller has appointed David Vermillion as its New York public affairs market leader and deputy public affairs chair.

The deputy chair position is a new role for the agency, but as the public affairs market leader, Vermillion is filling a slot left vacant for about a year, said Mike Lake, chair of the U.S. public affairs practice, to whom Vermillion will report.

Vermillion, who was recruited internally, was most recently EVP and New York public affairs practice leader at Edelman. Lake said that Vermillion was hired because of his proven track record to grow business when he was at Edelman and his leadership and mentoring qualities developing employees' skills.

As deputy practice chair, Vermillion will work closely with Lake to grow Burson's business through its offices in New York, Chicago, Pittsburgh, Washington, Dallas, Houston, and Austin. Lake added that the company is widening its presence in Florida now, which, like Texas, is a “bellwether state.”
