Blitz starts up PR practice, adds Uno's

BOSTON: Blitz, a media planning and buying agency, launched a PR and strategic communications practice, which will be headed up by MaryBeth Vrees.

Restaurant chain Uno's is the first PR client on board, an expansion of its current relationship with the agency, said Chris Perkins, president of Blitz. The new practice will focus on social media, crisis communications, experiential communications, reputation management, media and presentation training, and investor communications services.

"We've had clients asking for PR, but more importantly, we've known all along that PR would help their brand and business, especially the modern form of PR," said Perkins. "Now we're able to directly affect the seamless integration of the full spectrum of offline and online PR into the marketing mix we bring to bear for a client. We view this as absolutely crucial."

Vrees will lead the new practice as VP and director of strategic communications. Most recently, she rebranded and relaunched American Water for a $2.5 billion IPO. Vrees has created PR, advertising, and marketing strategies for Borders and Ford. She also managed internal communications at AOL, and spent half of her career as a television news anchor and reporter.

Blitz has worked with Wendy's, Kaspersky Labs, Feld Entertainment, Boston Globe Media, GrubHub, PerkStreet Financial, Cumberland Farms, and the Utah Office of Tourism.
