SGI taps Ogilvy for global PR

SAN FRANCISCO: Silicon Graphics International (SGI) hired Ogilvy Public Relations Worldwide as global AOR.

The agency will work to raise SGI's brand awareness internationally and toward establishing the company as a leading innovator and provider of high-performance computing storage services and solutions.

Ogilvy began on July 1, following a competitive review, and will primarily service the account from its San Francisco office, with additional support from other Ogilvy offices. SGI was looking for an international firm with a solid tech practice that could support its size and growth, and provide consistent outreach on a global scale.

“We want to work with someone who has international relationships and can play at the level that we're at,” said Franz Aman, CMO at SGI.

The company previously worked with a number of small PR agencies, but transitioned to a one-agency model to improve efficiency.

“We need to get things out fast and we need a network that can do that,” Aman explained. 

Louise Kehoe, SVP and co-leader of Ogilvy's western region tech practice, said the agency will focus on raising awareness of SGI's high-performance computing products and explaining how these products solve technology problems for researchers around the world.

"They are growing rapidly and addressing new markets globally," Kehoe said. "We will be facilitating that via our global network of offices."

SGI declined to disclose the budget or terms of the account.
