NEW YORK: APCO Worldwide has hired Helen Ostrowski, former CEO of Porter Novelli, as a senior advisor to its healthcare practice.

Ostrowski, who has a strong background in building relationships and communications with healthcare leaders and executives, will be helping to expand APCO's healthcare division in her new role.

“We will be working with her in client engagements, strategy sessions and brainstorms,” said Stig Albinus, APCO's New York healthcare practice leader.

“She'll be involved with new business opportunities, helping APCO to drive our growth in healthcare, particularly bringing her vast experience in healthcare monitoring, communications, and corporate communications to the firm as APCO is growing rapidly in these categories,” he added.

Ostrowski will be working on specific projects while reporting to Albinus and working with the agency's global offices and clients.

“I am really thrilled to be associated with APCO,” Ostrowski said. “I've had a long admiration for the agency as it has developed over the years.”

In 2010, APCO launched three new practices: Global Political Strategies, an international advisory group; the APCO Insight healthcare research practice; and APCO Radius, a transportation practice.

The company also bolstered up its health sector staff in August 2010 with the hire of Francesca Tedesco as VP of the firm's healthcare practice in the DC office.
