WASHINGTON: Hellerman Baretz Communications has hired retired US Army Col. Rudy Burwell as EVP of crisis communications and litigation PR, effective immediately.

Burwell will be responsible for providing the agency's clients with a variety of crisis-related services, including executive-level crisis communications, litigation PR counsel, pre-crisis communications audits, and post-crisis analysis modeled on the US Army's "after-action" review process.

Burwell served as chief of media operations for the Multi-National Corps during Operation Iraqi Freedom after beginning his Army career as a media relations officer. He also managed the media-embed program, which positioned 1,200 journalists a year, including Katie Couric, Anderson Cooper, and Geraldo Rivera, into combat units. Burwell also served as personal media escort to former Secretary of Defense Robert Gates when he visited Iraq.
