NEW YORK: Nick Charles, former EVP and director of global content at Porter Novelli, has joined Kaplow Communications as editor-in-chief and executive director of content. He began working at the agency today.
In the newly-created position, Charles will act as the agency's editorial voice and provide content-related strategy and consultation to clients.
“Kaplow's core focus is driving conversations and connections between brands and consumers and [Charles] brings a tremendous amount of experience to the table for Kaplow and our clients,” said Liz Kaplow, president and CEO of the eponymous firm, in a statement.
At Porter Novelli, he led editorial content strategy for brands including Gillette, Merck, Capital One, McDonald's, and Timberland. He also provided training on community management, and created conversations about the agency and clients at events such as Cannes and South by Southwest.
Charles previously worked as executive editor of green lifestyle website Ecomii.com, managing editor of Essence.com, VP of digital content at Black Entertainment Television Interactive (BETi), and editor-in-chief of AOL Black Voices.
Porter Novelli director of communications Catherine Sullivan confirmed that Charles left the agency, but declined additional comment.
The move is Kaplow's second recent senior hire from Porter Novelli. David Richeson recently joined the firm as SVP of consumer technology and K:Drive, the agency's social and digital media practice. He was previously VP of global and digital PR at Porter Novelli, where he led PR and social media strategy for the Gillette account. After 20 years with Porter, Gillette selected Ketchum as its new global AOR last month.
