COLLEGE STATION, TX: Texas A&M University has issued an RFP for an agency to handle marketing, advertising, and communications for its OPAS theater program.

OPAS, a division of Texas A&M's Memorial Student Center, puts on professional theater, music, and dance productions.

The agency selected for this five-year contract will promote OPAS with the goal of generating ticket sales for the organization, said Patty Winkler, senior buyer of procurement services at Texas A&M. The budget is undisclosed.

“Selling the performing arts is quite challenging,” the RFP document reads. “Willingness to learn the performing arts business is critical to servicing this account.”

The RFP also states that the OPAS operating budget is $1 million, 80% of which is generated through ticket sales, contributions, and advertising.

For the last 10 years, the school has worked with Sole Shoe Communications on its marketing, advertising, and communications efforts for OPAS, said Winkler. Sole Shoe is participating in the review process, she added.

The submission deadline for the RFP is January 13, 2012. An agency decision is projected to be made by February 1 of next year.
