In Southern California Murphy O'Brien sponsors 'holiday heroes'

Earlier this year, Murphy O'Brien Public Relations became involved with the Southern California Foster Family and Adoption Agency's (SCFFAA) “Holiday Heroes” program, which invites organizations and individuals to provide gifts for children that attend the organization's annual holiday party. Based in Los Angeles, SCFFAA is a private, nonprofit organization providing for the well-being of abused, abandoned, and neglected children. Each year, SCFFAA holds a holiday celebration for the children and families in their care. It is an exciting day for the children, filled with fun, gifts, and entertainment. The party is free of cost for the approximately 125 children and 75 families that attend each year.

SCFFAA relies heavily on charitable contributions to ensure each child that attends the holiday party receives Christmas or gifts since, for many, these are the only gifts they will receive during the holiday season. Murphy O'Brien volunteered to sponsor eight children for the “Holiday Heroes” toy drive. The company was assigned six girls and three boys, ages 1 to 11.

The agency held optional sign-ups in November for employees to participate by taking responsibility for providing gifts to one of the children, allowing for four “holiday adopters” per child. By the end of the toy drive, 28 of Murphy O'Brien's 44 employees were able to donate gifts for an estimated value of more than $500 worth of toys. Some employees also attended SCFFAA's holiday party on December 10 where children were entertained by a choir and magician, took photos with Santa Claus, and received their gifts.

Murphy O'Brien Public Relations' corporate culture puts a strong emphasis on philanthropy, encouraging employees to volunteer for causes such as Operation Gratitude for members of the military and working pro-bono for worthy organizations such as Chrysalis, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping economically disadvantaged individuals become self-sufficient through employment opportunities. The employees' emphatic support of the Holiday Heroes program is a testament to the company's pervasive core values and dedication to serving its community as well as its clients.
