MLB hires head of business PR

NEW YORK: Major League Baseball (MLB) has named Susan Goodenow VP of business PR, effective January 17.

NEW YORK: Major League Baseball (MLB) has named Susan Goodenow VP of business PR, effective January 17.

Goodenow will be responsible for handling PR for Major League Baseball's business groups. MLB's PR department is divided into two divisions--baseball and business. Pat Courtney, VP of public relations, handles all baseball-related PR issues. Goodenow, like Courtney, will report directly to Richard Levin, SVP public relations.

Goodenow will start work immediately on the league's Habitat for Humanity initiative it began last year. As part of the program, MLB is building homes for victims of the Gulf Coast hurricanes.

Levin said one of the main reasons MLB chose Goodenow, was because of the positive experiences he's had working with her in the past.

"We know her quality of work," Levin said. "She has a lot of experience in sports, baseball, in particular."

When Goodenow was SVP at Sanderson Strategies Group, Washington, D.C., she assisted the MLB with public relations campaigns surrounding labor issues and the Commissioner's Initiative on Women and Baseball. During that time she also worked with a number of teams including the Boston Red Sox, San Diego Padres and Minnesota Twins, on stadium issues and projects.

Goodenow joins from for the American Red Cross, where she served as officer, corporate partnerships and cause marketing. Prior to the American Red Cross she was at Sanderson. She is replacing Kathleen Fineout, who is leaving for undisclosed reasons.
