NEW YORK: As the New York Stock Exchange prepares to enter its new incarnation as a publicly traded entity, it has named Gary Stein as its first VP of IR.

Stein has been VP of business development for the NYSE since 2004. Before that, he worked as an executive director at Morgan Stanley Capital International.

Stein's first and most important task will be to help shepherd the NYSE's merger with Archipelago to completion. The newly combined, publicly traded company is expected to make its debut early this year.

"What made him the choice for this job is that he had the practical work experience that made him a logical fit," said Eric Ryan, senior media relations specialist for the NYSE.

Ryan also noted that Stein was "already at a similar level in the company" before the IR position was created.
