The move to SS&K from WPP Group's Ogilvy & Mather comes after some restructuring within the company, including the departure of marketing chief, Paul Matsen, last month. Dan Klores Communications continues to serve Delta as its lead consumer PR agency. *

The company, which has no separate PR firm, faced an April 15 walkout by its more than 5,000 pilots.  But, today a company spokesman confirmed Delta has reached a tentative agreement with the pilot's union, averting for now a strike that Delta said would put it out of business.

"SS&K takes a non-traditional, holistic approach to branding; that includes advertising, PR, online, and out-of-home marketing that reaches consumers in a compelling way," says Joe Kessler, a partner at SS&K. "Delta recognizes that that's what they have to do as a brand."

SS&K is formerly the marketing communications AOR for Song, a now defunct low-fare subsidiary of Delta. Song, which is being reintegrated into the Delta fleet, was best known for its in-flight entertainment and gourmet food.
