LOS ANGELES: The legacy of PR executive Henry Rogers is being honored with a University of Southern California Annenberg School for Communication scholarship fund.

The merit-based Henry C. Rogers Endowed Scholarship was launched with undisclosed funding from Rogers' children, Marcia Ross and Ron Rogers, who himself is founder of LA independent the Rogers Group.

"I hope this encourages others in [PR] to step forward and attempt to help better educate future industry leaders," Rogers said.

Henry Rogers, who opened his own agency in 1935, won industry accolades by garnering national attention for such actresses as Rita Hayworth and Joan Crawford. In 1950, he partnered with Warren Cowan to start Rogers & Cowan; he died in 1995.

"It is rare for PR pros to support PR education with hard cash," said Jerry Swerling, director of Annenberg's PR Studies program, who described the gift as "among the largest endowed scholarship funds in PR education."
