Marriott hires DC journalist for EVP position

WASHINGTON: Marriott International has hired Kathleen Matthews, a news anchor at ABC affiliate WJLA-TV in Washington, DC, EVP global communications and public affairs, beginning December 1.

WASHINGTON: Marriott International has hired Kathleen Matthews, a news anchor at ABC affiliate WJLA-TV in Washington, DC, EVP global communications and public affairs, beginning December 1.

She will report to J.W. Marriott, Jr., chairman and CEO. Matthews succeeds Charlotte B. Sterling, who will retire at the end of the year. Matthews is co-host of Capital Sunday, a half hour show on current events in the nation's capital. 

In a release, Marriott touted her journalistic skills. 

"[Matthews] has long been recognized for her keen judgment and the ability to communicate effectively to wide and disparate audiences whether anchoring the news, making critical news decisions or her leadership with community groups," Marriott said.

He also lauded Sterling, who joined the company in 1996.

"[Sterling] has forged one of the best communications teams in the corporate world, and played a critical role in earning the exceptional reputation our company enjoys today," he said, in the release.
