BURLIGAME, CA; Thomas PR has launched a campaign promoting FotoNation's new "Face Tracker" technology, now that it is available in certain Pentax cameras.

Thomas PR will represent FotoNation and arrange and press meetings for the client's Face Tracker and Dust Removal products at the Photokina show later this month in Germany. It will also support the client at the Las Vegas Consumer Electronics Show in January, and the Photo Marketing Show in February.

In addition to nominating FotoNation for awards, Thomas PR will place company bylined articles and hold phone briefings with the press and other influencers.

Eric Zarakov, VP of marketing for FotoNation, said the goals for this campaign were two fold: announcing the company's relationship with Pentax and the digital camera world and building awareness about how the marketer it expanding.

Face Tracker is a technology that automatically detects the position of a subject's face and adjusts the camera's focus and exposure to put the face in the best light. It is most valuable in bad lighting conditions and at night, where photographers tend to underexpose their subjects. The technology is in more than 40 million cameras, Zarakov said.

Zarakov said FotoNation is looking at imaging and connectivity solutions in other markets, such as the cameras on cell phones. The photos people take with cell phone cameras often are not exposed right because of a lack of flash technology.
