WASHINGTON: The US Army recently issued a pre-solicitation notice for a contractor to manage a planned promotional tour to unspecified sites in Kuwait and Iraq of four Super Bowl XLI players - two from each team - plus two cheerleaders from each team.

The response date for the planned RFP is February 12. Neither the dates nor the value of the contract, which the US Army Contracting Agency in Seckenheim, Germany, is managing, were disclosed.

"Services provided during this tour include... [the facilitation of] meeting and greeting deployed service members, signing autographs, attending command functions, posing for photos, participating in print and audio interviews, and participating in post-Super Bowl XLI activities at each site," according to the notice.

Visits by celebrities to US troops deployed overseas have been a tradition since WWII's USO tours.
