LOS ANGELES: Former Fleishman-Hillard Los Angeles GM Douglas Dowie today filed a suit in LA Superior Court against Fleishman seeking $3 million in legal fees plus damages for "emotional pain and suffering," according to his attorney, Michael J. Faber.

Dowie currently faces a 42-month prison sentence for his role in overbilling the LADWP, among other Fleishman clients. Dowie continues to maintain his innocence, and the firm itself has not been charged with a crime.

Rich Jernstedt, Fleishman EVP, senior partner, and CMO, said the firm notified Dowie, his attorneys, and the judge that legal fees would no longer be covered in advance of cutting them off, and noted legal fees were paid for "several months" after Dowie was terminated.

"We stopped paying Mr. Dowie's legal fees when we concluded it was no longer appropriate or required to do so," Jernstedt said.
