Unger tapped to lead AMPAS comms

BEVERLY HILLS, CA: The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences has selected Leslie Unger to succeed longtime director of communications John Pavlik upon his March 31 retirement. Until now, Pavlik has been the Oscars organization's sole communications head; he oversaw the department's creation when the Academy took its PR operation in-house in 1992. Pavlik earlier served stints as the Academy's executive administrator from 1979 - 1982, and as director of the five-year endowment campaign for the Academy's Margaret Herrick Library from 1989 -1993. Unger, currently the Academy's publicity coordinator, joined the organization in 1992. She will assume her new position on April 1.
