SAN FRANCISCO: Bite Communications has launched its clean tech practice, hiring a PhD in biophysics and a political expert to run the division.

George Basile, PhD, has been named an executive advisor, and Kristine Skierka, most recently of the California Public Utility Commission's "Flex Your Power" initiative, is an account director of the new global division.

Bite is working with existing clients such as AMD, Applied Materials and Sun Microsystems, on clean tech endeavors. Bite SVP Tony Hynes said the agency is currently in discussions with several companies to represent them.

Hynes added that hiring an external person who had the scientific background such as Basile was a really important step.

"No one in the PR industry can bring that kind of knowledge," Hynes said. "That gives us a very strong advantage."

Bite's clean tech division is certified by the Bay Area Green Business Program.
