At Central Park's Tavern on the Green, decor and place settings twinkle even on non-PRWeek Awards nights. Add close to 1,000 glamorously dressed PR executives breathlessly waiting to see who would leave with the evening's top honors, and the venue practically lit itself.

While most everyone in attendance was in some sense in competition with one another, they too seemed thrilled to witness each other's successes. The PR industry is relatively tight-knit, after all: Many folks had worked together at one point or another, and award-winning advancements in the discipline are ultimately good for everyone involved. Sure, we all feel a twinge of "I wish I'd thought of that" envy now and again. But the 2007 PRWeek Awards were all about cheering for the winners, raising glasses in congratulations, and chit-chatting so much among ourselves that I can't begin to calculate the amount of (delicious-looking) meat left on our plates. How many PR execs do you know, anyway, who can politely chew a filet and carry on a fascinating conversation at the same time?

Overall, it was an outstanding evening, of positively Oscar-worthy proportions. The only thing missing? The tax-free gifting suite. Maybe next year.
