While most everyone in attendance was in some sense in competition with one another, they too seemed thrilled to witness each other's successes. The PR industry is relatively tight-knit, after all: Many folks had worked together at one point or another, and award-winning advancements in the discipline are ultimately good for everyone involved. Sure, we all feel a twinge of "I wish I'd thought of that" envy now and again. But the 2007 PRWeek Awards were all about cheering for the winners, raising glasses in congratulations, and chit-chatting so much among ourselves that I can't begin to calculate the amount of (delicious-looking) meat left on our plates. How many PR execs do you know, anyway, who can politely chew a filet and carry on a fascinating conversation at the same time?
Overall, it was an outstanding evening, of positively Oscar-worthy proportions. The only thing missing? The tax-free gifting suite. Maybe next year.
