Gen. Peter Pace, chairman of the US Joint Chiefs of Staff, recently raised the ire of gay-rights groups with his comments to the Chicago Tribune editorial board that “homosexual acts between two people are immoral.” Pace was responding to a question about whether the US military, faced with an unpopular war in Iraq and ongoing recruiting troubles, would consider repealing its “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy, which prohibits openly gay service members. Pace later issued a statement saying, "I should have focused more on my support of the policy and less on my personal moral views.”
