The repeated images of a too-skinny Allegra Versace has caused shock and concern, but not much in the way of reform.
But now that her family has admitted anorexia, a statement that has been followed by hyperbolic reports of Allegra's failing health (which have been strenuously denied by the Versace family), will it be enough to make designers drastically change their habits? As with any situation, banning size zero models is not without detractors, who would argue that such rigid rules who preclude naturally waif, healthy women from earning a living. That might be true, but it's unlikely that, after this news, such a defense can be hold its weight.
It's unlikely that the designer community afford to remain mute to a situation when the offspring of one of the illustrious names is so publicly suffering.
