NEW YORK and WASHINGTON: Manning Selvage & Lee has acquired Arlington, VA-based The McGinn Group, bolstering not only its presence in the Washington region, but also in the corporate affairs and crisis management field.

The firm, to be called McGinn MS&L, will retain its own identity, with agency CEO Dan McGinn remaining at the helm. While MS&L will continue to maintain branded crisis and corporate PR offerings throughout its network, Mark Hass, global CEO at Publicis Groupe-owned MS&L, said, "best practices and client opportunities will be passed both ways."

The McGinn Group has worked with MS&L on shared client GM for many years; McGinn client AstraZeneca also works with the New York-based firm. McGinn said existing clients and new accounts would benefit from MS&L’s domestic and global services. MS&L will continue to operate its already-established Washington-based practice.

In other MS&L news, the agency is working with CIT Group on crisis communications issues following allegations that financial-aid officers at top US universities accepted stock or served as paid consultants in Student Loan Xpress (SLX), which CIT acquired in 2005.
