A few years back, in the lead up to the 2002 Salt Lake City Olympics, the Mormon church ramped up its PR efforts in the hopes that the church could use the spotlight to brighten its image. It was Edelman that helped the church navigate that tricky time, but now, with a Mormon running for president, the agency is apparently out (at least in an official status) and the church may be searching for fresh help. Despite that report, Michael Otterson, media relations director for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, told the Politico:
"The church uses a number of agencies from time to time, depending on need. Indeed, it still has the option to work with Edelman. Although it's true we have ended the formal contract, very few such contracts in that industry last so long. You shouldn't assume that this represents any 'change of direction' for the church."

Should Romney win the nomination -- and he has an early lead in fundraising -- the stories inspecting his religion are sure to surface again. One would expect the church to settle on agency help in the very near future in preparation.
