Domino's hires Splash to ally with internal PR unit

ANN ARBOR, MI: Domino's has hired PR consultancy Splash Communications as AOR without conducting a formal review.

Tim McIntyre, communications VP at Domino's, said Splash will work on a number of major initiatives, including product launches and special events. It's currently working on the Philly Cheese Steak Pizza reintroduction effort, and will help promote the company's relationship with St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.

"In any given year, there are five or six major points of emphasis for us, and that's where Splash will come in," McIntyre said.

McIntyre said the pizza-delivery chain chose Splash based on a decade-long relationship with Kyle Potvin, its principal. Potvin was an SVP at Vorhaus & Co., Domino's AOR up until 2004.

After a formal review, Domino's then named Ketchum its AOR, but they amicably parted ways in late 2006.

"In 2004, we thought we were going to need a full-service agency because we were taking the company public," McIntyre said. "After two years, we realized we actually didn't need one because we have a very solid internal PR team. We decided that our team working with [Splash] would be the best thing."

Domino's has a five-member internal PR staff. McIntyre would not discuss financial details of the one-year contract.
