The Washington Post gives an overview today of the lobbying and PR outreach done by and on behalf of Kurdistan in the US, including a campaign run by Russo, Marsh & Rogers that was previously reported in PRWeek. Among all the positive coverage of Kurdistan lately, Chritsopher Hitchens wrote a piece in Vanity Fair recently on a trip to Iraqi Kudistan, where he said he and his son had a “perfectly swell time.”

Kurdistan is one of the relatively stable portions of Iraq these days, and the region doesn’t want anyone to forget it. US support and goodwill could be very important if and when US forces pull out and – some people suspect – Kurdistan moves to declare itself separate from the rest of the nation, despite opposition from neighboring countries like Turkey, whose government for decades has been attempting to suppress a Kurdish separatist movement in the southeastern part of that country.
