WPP 1Q revenue rises 4.3%

LONDON: WPP Group reported first-quarter revenue for 2007 up 4.3% to $2.7 billion compared with same period in 2006, and excluding acquisitions and adjusting for changes in currency values.

LONDON: WPP Group reported first-quarter revenue for 2007 up 4.3% to $2.7 billion compared with same period in 2006, and excluding acquisitions and adjusting for changes in currency values.

Advertising and media accounted for a bulk of the revenue, totaling approximately $1.26 billion, up 4.5% when currency fluctuations are excluded, while public relations and public affairs generated about $295 million, up 12.9%, accounting for the strongest growth at the firm, WPP said.

In addition, WPP's branding and identity, healthcare, and specialist communications accounted for close to $769 million, and the firm's research and consultancy work totaled about $408 million.

In other news, WPP announced last week it had acquired Madrid-based TAPSA, a marketing communications firm that had 2006 unaudited revenue of $45.6 million.
