NEW YORK: Critical Mention has started beta testing a new consumer-generated media (CGM) monitoring module that will give its clients the ability to track its presence on social media online outlets, in addition to the tracking service it already provides for television.

The unnamed module is now being used by a number of the company's clients, with plans for an official launch in about three weeks. When it launches, the module will offer real-time tracking of CGM hits for its clients, monitoring a number of social media sites, such as YouTube and Revver, and providing full tracking reports.

"Feedback from our clients shows an increasing demand for social media and TV [tracking] in one module," said Sean Foley, VP of sales for Critical Mention.

Sean Morgan, founder and CEO of the company added: "Video on the largest social media sites out there can be wildly viral. Social media has become a huge initiative across corporate communications to aggregate and defuse any inaccuracies that are created and distributed in the social media format."

The initiative is being welcomed by the beta testers, who work across a number of industries and were all approached in one day.

"I think it's a first step in what is really very necessary going forward," said Nick Peters, SVP of marketing and strategy for On the Scene Productions, a Critical Mention client. "The clients expect the same level of accountability [for the Web] that they've grown to expect from TV."
