One of the most valuable benefits of a 24/7 news cycle? The Simpsons Movie updates never stop. In the latest, Twentieth Century Fox announced yesterday that Springfield, VT beat out 13 other US Springfields to host the film's highly anticipated premiere.

"I heard a little scuttlebutt at the bank," town resident Judi Martin told USAToday of the big win. "People were buzzing, not that it takes much to buzz in a small town."

Each Springfield (including those in Illinois and Oregon, which came in second and third, respectively) submitted videos to USAToday.com, meant to convince readers of its Simpson-like qualifications. The 9,300-resident Vermont locale -- a one-time machine tool-industry hub, on the decline since the '90s when the shops shut down -- won by a nose. The movie will be screened at the town's single theater on July 21; it's due out nationwide July 27.
