ATLANTA: Home Depot is restructuring its PR department in a move that includes the creation of a new division and the departure of senior staff members.

As part of the change, the company is creating a "field communications" team to oversee store communications, including PR and community affairs activities related to its stores.  A search for a senior director to lead this department is underway, and includes internal and external candidates, according to an internal memo obtained by PRWeek. That director will report to Brad Shaw, who will remain SVP of corporate communications and external affairs; and Paul Raines, EVP, US stores. Many of the internal changes at the company are being made to accommodate the new division.

David Sandor, the company's former VP of corporate communications; and Kevin Martinez, VP of community affairs, are both leaving the company, according to the memo. It stated that Sandor was "pursuing other opportunities." The company has also promoted Ron DeFeo to director of corporate communications, with the responsibility of overseeing all of Home Depot's PR and corporate communications activities.  DeFeo will report to Shaw.

"This is another step in our continued effort to refocus our resources on our key resources on our core retail business and redeploy those resources to the field to better support our stores," Shaw told PRWeek.
