It must be an ego blow to be told your name is coming off the company marquee to strengthen the brand. Yet an ongoing trend among top law firms is shortening the company name to give it a more memorable punch. The latest is Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw becoming, simply, Mayer Brown as of September 1. The firm's vice chairman says, "By adapting to become simply Mayer Brown, we see an opportunity to build a stronger and more defined brand in a fiercely competitive market."
