Who is your client, and what are his media goals?
John Angelo: Our client is author Harry Medved, who has written several movie-related books, including some with his brother, radio talk show host and film critic Michael Medved. Harry wanted us to expose his latest book to the largest audience of entertainment fans possible.
What made the nationally syndicated radio program Hollywood Confidential with Leeza Gibbons such a good hit, and how did you pitch the show's producers?
Angelo: Hollywood Confidential is on hundreds of affiliates nationwide and reaches 3 million entertainment fans each week, so it was a perfect fit for Medved. I had previously placed guests on the show and knew the producers, so I pitched them on having Medved discuss his book Hollywood Escapes, which is a travel guide for movie lovers.
Was this book a good enough hook on its own to interest the show's producers?
Angelo: The challenge was that Hollywood Escapes wasn't brand new - in fact, it was about a year old. So we updated the pitch by offering to have Medved talk about this summer's big films, such as Spider-Man 3 and Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End, and how people could plan vacations around the locations seen in these blockbusters.
Did you have to media train Medved before this interview?
Angelo: Medved is a fantastic speaker with some radio experience, so no formal media training was necessary. But we did brief him and provided talking points he should look to get across during the interview. We also had press materials with quotes about Medved 's book that we gave the producers so that Gibbons was familiar with his work.
What was the impact of the hit?
Angelo: The interview went so well that the producers worked with us to have Medved come back for more appearances. We secured about 30 additional interviews, primarily radio, which really helped enhance his profile as an expert on both movies and travel.
