The front page of Metro newspaper had a picture of it today. Good Morning America mentioned it on their show. All the tabloids, without a doubt, will review it. And I’m sure bloggers from everywhere were fast to cover it on their sites. It was the moment that fans and media were all tuning into: The comeback of pop princess Britney Spears…except, it wasn’t much of a comeback at all.

The long-awaited return of Britney’s fallen career that was supposed to kick off at the opening of the MTV Music Video Awards was reportedly a flop.
Dressed in sequinned black bra and pants, stiletto boots and a bad blonde hair weave, the 25-year-old paparazzi magnet forgot the lyrics as she half-heartedly lip synced, stared glassily into space and moved awkwardly through a supposedly raunchy dance routine.

Last week on Good Morning America, correspondent Julie Chen was hopeful that this would be the turnaround of a career that had been sunken by a tumultuous divorce, reports of bad parenting skills, and deviant behavior.

But Britney seemed more of a desperate diva than the sultry star she was back at the same awards show in 2001 when she made headlines by coming on stage with a snake wrapped around her neck (and looking effortlessly cool while doing so).

Many of her fans and media alike viewed this as the prime opportunity for the pop star (who has sold some 76 million albums worldwide) to show that she was back in the game. But unfortunately, it was another “Oops, I did it again” moment for Britney, as she lost on this one.
