You had to figure it was only a matter of time before other major toy providers started getting proactive in testing their products to make sure they are safe. The Walt Disney Co. announced today it would begin to independently test toys featuring its characters.

According to the AP, Disney consumer products spokesman Gary Foster said the company's plan calls for it to hire companies that will randomly buy Disney-branded toys and subsequently test them for lead paint and other safety issues such as small parts that could come loose. "Disney wants to give an added level of scrutiny and assurance to parents that a product with a Disney character has gone through this process," Foster said.
