An interesting observation from my three days in Boston at the Introduction to Investor Relations conference hosted by the National Investor Relations Institute: The majority of those attending (about 130, many of them new to the profession with six months or less experience on the job) appear to be women. Many of the speakers are women as well. Perhaps there are more women moving into investor relations roles? It's something worth looking into when I get back to the office.

The conference has provided a nice overview of investor relations today. There are lots of rules about disclosure and what these communicators can and cannot say. However, the speakers talk about the IR pro's duty to speak for their companies honestly and with transparency to maintain credibility. There's an ethics section this afternoon, and the speaker is the director of PR and media relations from a software company. More to come on that...
