Facebook chooses OutCast as AOR

PALO ALTO, CA: Facebook has selected OutCast as its AOR for North America. The company previously conducted most of its PR in-house.

Brandee Barker, director of corporate communications at Facebook, confirmed the win, but would not provide additional details. "Our current policy is not to discuss details or our agency relationships," she said via e-mail.

A source at OutCast said the agency has agreed not to comment on the win. The technology PR firm operates out of offices in New York and San Francisco.

Facebook's recent move to make its user profiles available on public search engines is an example of its strategy to gain more users since opening the site to non-college students a year ago. The company has surged in popularity in recent months and now reports having more than 41 million active users. But it still faces fierce competition from MySpace, the News Corp.-owned social-media giant that is estimated to have more than 100 million users.

PRWeek UK has reported that Facebook is looking for an AOR in the UK and that it has approached a dozen agencies there.
