In March, I reported on the communications efforts behind the HBO documentary series The Addiction Project. The series has gone on to win the Governors Honors at this year's Creative Arts Emmy awards ceremony, which took place on September 8. The award recognizes people and organizations involved with social causes. Two of the National Institutes of Health involved with the project - the National Institute on Drug Abuse and the National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism - have today issued a release acknowledging the award. Interestingly, this quote was included, which reflecting the importance of communications to the nation's premier healthcare group:
"This honor reflects our commitment to effectively communicate research results to the public," said NIH Director Elias Zerhouni, M.D. "The multimedia nature of this project gave us the opportunity to reach out to millions of Americans with a message of hope."
