Faced with a new Democratic majority in Congress and broader political support for climate change-related bills, the National Mining Association (NMA) is expected this year to boost is lobbying and advertising budget, The Hill reports.

The industry certainly has ongoing image issues to deal with, including trapped miners that prompt emotional media coverage and campaigns by environmental groups to change what they claim (and the NMA denies) are destructive mining practices.

Such issues can’t help win support on the Hill, though the industry does enjoy loyal support from many members of Congress whose constituents depend on the industry for their livelihoods. For more on the NMA, see also this PRWeek profile.
