Esquire’s Spanish edition hit newsstands yesterday, and which Spanish celebrity or intellect do you think the magazine tapped to grace its premiere cover? Ummm… Woody Allen. That’s right.

But apparently the cover subject choice is in line with the publication’s aim: to focus not on sex or cars and gadgets like its competitors, but on interesting people with something to say. And editor-in-chief Andres Rodriguez told the AP that Allen "is the prototype of what men and women see as an intelligent man, one whom they would like to meet for dinner and have a conversation." Allen does have his Spanish connections: he's been shooting a movie in Barcelona and is popular in Spain.
