CHICAGO: Due to booming demand in PR majors, for the first time in nearly 40 years, Loyola University Chicago is adding a new school. The new undergraduate School of Communication will include an expanded advertising and PR major.

“There's an unmet need that we're going to be tapping,” said Herb Ritchell, director of the advertising and PR program. “We saw a tremendous burst [of interest] when we announced the program. We hope that students will understand both advertising and PR, but frankly, we see more interest on the PR side.”

The advertising and PR major, in its third year and with 240 students, is the fastest growing at the university. New faculty and courses will be offered and a new dean is currently being sought.
