NEW YORK: As shareholders approved News Corp's acquisition of Dow Jones (DJ) on December 13, the ax fell in DJ's corporate communications department.

Linda Dunbar, the company's VP of communications, was let go at the deal's approval. Also released was Mark Donohue, the company's director of IR.

Howard Hoffman, DJ's remaining corporate communications director, will turn his focus to internal communications.

Hoffman said that the need for both Dunbar and Donohue's positions were obviated when News Corp took over. Both Dunbar's role and the IR work that Donohue did will be handled at the News Corp level from now on.

Hoffman said he was unaware of any other changes in the communications department at DJ. Dunbar described her departure as amicable, and says that she is now pursuing another job in corporate PR.
