The PR machine that is Steve Jobs did it again. During yesterday's opening keynote address at the 2008 Macworld Conference & Expo, Jobs pulled a sleek laptop from a manila envelope, reportedly evoking gasps from a stunned audience.

The MacBook Air is less than an inch thick and is being marketed as "the world's thinnest notebook." Though the svelte notebook is undoubtedly appealing, its biggest drawback is no optical drive for reading CDs or DVDS. But according to the NY Times, Jobs isn't worried this will turn-off his dedicated base:
Responding to a question about the growing array of media, including digital photographs, movies and music, that now swell most users’ hard drives, Mr. Jobs said, "Maybe this isn’t the computer for you."
