New Web site from 'SNL' pokes fun at politics

From Chevy Chase as Gerald Ford to Phil Hartman as Ronald Reagan to Amy Poehler as Hillary Clinton, 'Saturday Night Live' has always been known for its political satire. Now NBC has brought that online with a new political Web site: SNL Elections 2008.

From Chevy Chase as Gerald Ford to Phil Hartman as Ronald Reagan to Amy Poehler as Hillary Clinton, Saturday Night Live is known for its political satire. Now NBC has brought that online with a new political Web site: SNL Elections 2008. The site, which is linked from the original SNL site, includes bios of the candidates and some SNL-like taglines: Obama: Black is the new president; Clinton: B*tch is the new black; and McCain: Not as old as you think.

There are games such as Whack a Pol, e-cards, and message boards, and fans can vote for their favorite presidential impersonator. And, of course, there are tons of videos.

With the election year and the close Democratic race, it is smart of SNL to capitalize on the interest in all things politics. News of the site has already gotten picked up by blogs like TVCrunch, USA Today's Pop Candy, and The Huffington Post.

Also hot online:

Britney Spears was back on CBS' How I Met Your Mother this week, but two Web sites also made appearances. LilyandMarshallSellTheirStuff.com links to the Charity Folks online auction Web site, where an auction is going on to benefit the Children's Hospital of Los Angeles, and GuyForcesHisWifeToDressInAGarbageBagForTheNextThreeYears.com links to a slideshow of, yes, a woman wearing a trash bag.

Now that Ugly Betty will shoot its next season on location in New York, will bloggers be more interested in the cast and show, a la Gossip Girl? Gawker says probably.

The first seven minutes of Speed Racer are available online, so fans can take the film for a test drive before heading out to the movie theater.
