WASHINGTON: The National Lesbian & Gay Journalists Association (NLGJA) and Witeck-Combs Communications launched OutNewsWire on May 20 as a news distribution service for the LGBT community. The service had almost 200 journalists, bloggers, and media pros within the LGBT media community who signed up to receive press releases at its onset.

"In 15 years working with the gay media, we have seen that it's a very dynamic media and it changes all the time," said Bob Witeck, CEO of Witeck-Combs. "We wanted a service that changes and works with the media." OutNewsWire, which is available online 24-7, has easier access for freelancers and bloggers, Witeck said, and offers a discount for nonprofits hoping to use the service to reach the gay media.

Witeck pitched the idea to NLGJA, which saw it "as a way to benefit the media they serve," he said.
