Brauchli named Washington Post executive editor

WASHINGTON: The Washington Post reported it has named Marcus Brauchli, former Wall Street Journal managing editor, its new executive editor. He succeeds Post executive editor Len Downie on Sept. 8. Post managing editor Philip Bennett, who was also considered for the job, has made no decision about his future, but publisher Katharine Weymouth has encouraged him to stay at the newspaper in his current position, according to a report in the Post by staff writer Howard Kurtz. Brauchli resigned from the Journal in April, just four months after News Corp. bought the newspaper as part of its acquisition of Dow Jones.
