Westin gives fliers free branded items

NEW YORK: Westin Hotels and Resorts recently tried to add some of its luxury services to hectic holiday travel by handing out free items, such as branded blankets and pillows, in United Airline's JFK terminal.

Passengers flying from New York to California on August 29 were treated to the freebies. Westin's AOR, Nancy J. Friedman Public Relations, aided the effort.

In an industry riddled with fees, the effort was a way to draw attention to a new partnership between Westin and United, and create a connection with consumers, according to Nadeen Ayala, senior director of corporate PR for Starwood Hotels, parent company of Westin.

“We wanted to bring our [products] to a place where they would help consumers feel better, at a time [when] it was least expected and would create the most impact,” Ayala said.

In the coming year, Westin plans to provide business and first-class United fliers with its pillows and blankets, as well as White Tea-scented towelettes and beverages.
