Arizona Tourism hires media relations firm to help attract more Canadian travellers

TORONTO: The Arizona Office of Tourism (AOT) has hired Vision/Co. to helm its media relations, in a bid to continue to attract Canadian travellers to the state in the midst of a slow economy. The Toronto agency won the business following a RFP.

Vision/Co. will work with AOT to strengthen and communicate Arizona's brand through traditional and online outreach to showcase the state's offerings to Canadians.

Those strategies will help illustrate the fact that Arizona “isn't just about golf, but also offers culinary tourism and adventure travel,” said Marsha Mowers, PR and communications manager for Vision/Co. The City of Houston also recently awarded a media relations contract to Vision/Co, and the firm also works with New York City.

In 2006, Arizona attracted nearly 500,000 Canadian visitors, a 17% increase over 2005. Those visitors stayed an average of 15 nights, and combined spent more than $473 million in the state.
