WINNIPEG: Former TV anchor Monique LaCoste has been hired as the communications and development coordinator at the Collège Universitaire de Saint-Boniface, the French-speaking college and university associated with the University of Manitoba.

In the newly-created role, she will be responsible for donor and media relations, as well as developing communication tools for the development office and the office of the president. LaCoste will also coordinate the alumni association, including fundraising activities.

“The college is on the verge of announcing a capital campaign,” said LaCoste of her hiring. “We want to reach out [in terms of donations] to Anglophones who don't know the college as well as Francophones do, because the fact is a good proportion of our students are from an Anglophone background.”

An announcer with Radio Canada for 18 years, in 2003 she anchored Téléjournal Manitoba, Radio Canada's French language 6:00 pm newscast until early 2007, when she launched her own firm to provide communications consulting.
