ConocoPhillips hires Petroleum Institue's Cavaney

HOUSTON: ConocoPhillips named Red Cavaney SVP of government and public affairs, effective November 1. Cavaney, is retiring from the American Petroleum Institute, where he was president and CEO since 1997. At ConocoPhillips, Cavaney will oversee federal, state, and international policy and government affairs, as well as the company's communications and public affairs work. American Chemistry Council president Jack Gerard succeeds Cavaney at the Washington-based API.
