Atlanta PR pro John 'Phil' Harrison passes away at 75

ATLANTA: John Phillip Harrison, a Georgia PR and journalism professional for many years, passed away October 6 at age 75 from complications related to cancer. Harrison was PR director of WSB Radio in Atlanta in the 1960s and later opened his own firm, Harrison Public Relations.

ATLANTA: John Phillip Harrison, a Georgia PR and journalism professional for many years, passed away October 6 at age 75 from complications related to cancer. Harrison was PR director of WSB Radio in Atlanta in the 1960s and later opened his own firm, Harrison Public Relations.

Harrison was also president of the Georgia chapter of the Public Relations Society of America (PRSA) in 1973, and he was elected to The Order of the Phoenix, the society's Hall of Fame. Donations may be made in his name to the group.

In addition to PR, Harrison was at one time editor for various community newspapers including the LaGrange Daily News in Georgia, and he most recently owned an Atlanta insurance agency.

The funeral was held at Northside United Methodist Church in Atlanta. He is survived by his wife, June Smith Harrison; sons John P. Harrison, Jr., and A. Smith Harrison; daughter Deborah Wilson; brothers E. Bruce Harrison and Sam Harrison; sister Diana Harrison Roberts; and three granddaughters and one grandson.
