With the growth of smartphones in recent months, the cellphone has become the largest medium for up-to-the-second celebrity gossip news, The New York Times reports.

TMZ.com started a mobile offering last April and watched traffic soar to 1.1 million visitors in July, eclipsing the mobile audience of People.com, the article notes.
